History Happy Hour: Idaho Ebony

Thursday, February 4, 2021, 2:00 AM - 3:00 AM

We have increased the capacity for this event! Effective immediately we are now able to host up to 500 people for this live virtual event. Please register today and join us for the conversation with Dr. Oliver at 6PM on February 3rd, 2021.
“There is no reason for them to remain invisible partners in the making of the state. [Afro-American citizens] are a proud part of Idaho’s past and vital contributors to its present and future. We salute these ebony citizens of Idaho!” – Dr. Mamie Oliver, Idaho Ebony: The Afro-American Presence in Idaho State History.

As the first African American professor at Boise State University in 1972, the author of Idaho Ebony: The Afro-American Presence in Idaho State History, and the instigator for adding the St. Paul Baptist Church to the National Register of Historic Places, Dr. Mamie Oliver’s contributions to the retention of Black Idahoan history are vast and prominent.

Meet Dr. Mamie Oliver in this History Happy Hour Zoom event on February 3rd as we discuss how she broke barriers and inspired countless others in Idaho and beyond to do the same. Moderator Alison Espindola (Events and Rentals Coordinator, Idaho State Museum) will discuss with Dr. Oliver her life, work, and knowledge of Black history both in Idaho and across the United States. You can participate in the conversation through the pre-event audience Q&A by emailing questions to events@ishs.idaho.gov or submitting them live during the event in the chat bar.
