SUMMARY:First Friday Art Walk featuring Sandra Thoen
DESCRIPTION:Please join us in celebrating our featured artist\, Sandra Thoen. Her opening reception is Friday April 3\, 2026\, from 5-8 pm. \nSandra Thoen is a self-taught\, multi-medium\, multi-genre artist based in Southeast Idaho. Over the years\, Sandra has enjoyed creating representational\, pen and ink art for t-shirts for her son’s t-ball teams\, and for Idaho State University groups. Further\, Sandra has created dozens of full-wall murals for children’s bedrooms\, always taking the child’s ideas for the mural into consideration. It’s amazing to watch a child’s eyes light up when their ideas come to fruition on their bedroom wall. The aging process has taken Sandra’s ability to paint murals away\, but her desire to create other art endures. \nSandra describes her current works as “emotive pours\, pushes\, and pulls of colorful acrylic paint across the canvas. I never know which emotions or images may materialize. I may produce mandalas\, seashells\, flowers\, mountains\, an arid desert\, or a melody on the canvas. It’s always a surprise to see what materializes.” \n

SUMMARY:"For the Birds" Concert
DESCRIPTION:“FOR THE BIRDS” CONCERT\nLive music\, images and poetry invite reflection on our changing climate\nNelda Swiggett’s Multimedia Jazz Composition Inspires Audiences to Take Action   \nDetails:\nTuesday April 7\, at  7::00 – 8:30 \nPocatello UU Fellowship \n426 W Lewis St\, Pocatello\, ID \nFree Event Donations welcome \n“For the Birds” features a jazz duo performing the original music of Seattle pianist and composer Nelda Swiggett. But this is not just a concert. The performance engages the power of artistic expression — live music\, spoken words\, images and poetry — to connect audiences deeply and emotionally to the scientific realities of our changing climate. Ultimately a story of hope\, audiences leave the performance feeling empowered to take meaningful action. \nWhy birds? Birds are a part of our daily life experience\, and an inspiring connection to the natural world. But climate change is having a significant and alarming impact on many bird species\, and this should be a wake-up call for all of us. \nFeaturing Nelda Swiggett (piano\, vocals\, compositions)\, Clif Swiggett (trombone\, percussion)\, and the poetry of Jill McGrath. \n“… wonderfully inspiring…. The content was informative without being preachy; the music  was magical…” — Gail M.\, concertgoer \n“… spliced with a dialogue about climate science and solutions. It touches the emotional  edges of our understanding and invites action from a deeper place.” —Louise S.\,  concertgoer \nThe concert is Tuesday\, April 7th\, at 7:00 pm at the Pocatello UU Fellowship  426 W Lewis St. Pocatello and runs for 90 minutes. Doors open at 6:30 pm. The production is free\, donations are welcome. Recommended for ages 10 and up. \nMore information about “For the Birds” is available at https://neldaswiggett.com/for-the-birds/.
