SUMMARY:Make it Wild: Birds of a Color: Exploring Color Mixing in Pastel
DESCRIPTION:In this live class\, join Pastel Society of America Signature Artist Jennifer L. Hoffman to explore various approaches to pastel color mixing in this 2-hour exploration. Using birds as subject matter\, Jen will guide participants through the concepts of visual color mixing\, blending\, underpainting\, and color play by creating the same composition in three variations. \nSuggested Supplies to Bring:\nFor this class\, participants are encouraged to bring their own soft pastels. Participants will have plenty of materials to explore from both the Museum and Jen’s personal art supplies\, but bringing your own pastels will help you get the most out of the class. If able\, please bring: \n\nYour favorite soft pastels in a range of light to dark values and a variety of colors (no oil pastels\, please).\nA small set of high-quality soft pastels\, such as Terry Ludwig\, Sennelier\, Great American Artworks\, Richeson\, is suggested. Half-stick sets are a great\, more affordable option.\nPlease avoid inexpensive “chalk” sets\, as these are simply dyed chalk and won’t mix or blend effectively.\n\nThis class will take place from 6 – 8 p.m. on February 3\, in the Museum Classroom. \nRegister now!  \nMake it Wild courses are open to adults and young adults with beginner to intermediate abilities. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions during this interactive program. \n\n$50 per Live In-Person Class\nLimited to the first 20 participants\n\nYour registration fee supports the Museum’s Art Leadership Scholarship in Honor of the Memory of Dick Jennings. Dick Jennings was a Museum board member whose memory inspires us to pursue our passions. The $4\,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a local High School Senior who plans to study art at the college level. Thank you for your support! \nAbout the artist: \nJennifer L. Hoffman has been making art in the Tetons for 30 years. She works in many mediums\, but her all-time favorite is pastel.  She loves introducing people to the unique qualities and possibilities of pastel and encouraging the innate creative expression that is hiding in everyone.  Jen’s work is in many private collections around the world and is included in permanent collections at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum\, the Jackson Hole Airport\, and\, most notably\, the National Museum of Wildlife Art.

SUMMARY:Make it Wild: Heart and Hands – The Art of Rug Hooking with Alissa Ehrenkranz
DESCRIPTION:In this fun\, live class\, we will use a variety of textiles (wool\, cotton\, silk\, and poly-blend) hooked onto a burlap backing from a pattern of your own design. We can explore flowers\, landscapes\, animals\, and domestic scenes as subjects and stitch them into our patterns with a range of textures and tones. In this workshop\, local artist Alissa Ehrenkranz will cover the elements of design\, an introduction to color theory\, textile characteristics\, and how to plan a design to hook. You will leave with your project started and a plan for finishing it. \nThis class will take place from 6 – 8 p.m. on October 28\, in the Museum Classroom. \nAbout the artist:  \nAlissa Ehrenkranz blends her naturalistic wildlife drawing practice with elements of abstract and modernist painting methods to bring the color\, texture\, and movement of wildlife into focus. She employs textiles to convey a tactile sense of the atmosphere and mood of the setting\, using simplified forms to capture the energy of her subjects. Starting with a Nature Journaling practice\, Alissa records the details of the mountainscapes around her\, including science notations of weather and geological conditions\, capturing the local Steppe Prairie native plants and animals\, including Sagebrush\, Chokecherry\, Elk\, Deer\, Red-Tailed Hawks\, and Trout\, among others. Alissa begins with a series of drawings and watercolors to reduce her subjects into form\, color\, and movement. She then outlines the results onto linen or burlap and proceeds to ink\, watercolor\, and stitch (hook\, embroider\, crochet\, collage\, felt\, etc.) the final composition. Her materials are derived from local wool producers\, recycled silks and cottons\, and botanically dyed unspun wool roving. Alissa lives and works in Jackson Hole\, Wyoming.

SUMMARY:Artist Talk with Roy Kady
DESCRIPTION:Join us in our Cook Auditorium for an evening with Diné weaver and fiber artist\, Roy Kady. Kady describes himself as a shepherd and an artist\, having learned to weave at the age of nine from his grandmother\, grandfather\, and mother. His work is deeply inspired by the landscapes his sheep guide him to. Inspired by the beautiful Arizona wilderness\, he takes the colors and geometric forms he observes in the environment back to his loom. In this talk\, he will discuss his work\, processes\, and inspirations\, and will show a 15-minute clip from the documentary A Gift From Talking God\, which delves into his process as a shepherd and the importance of the Navajo-Churro sheep in Navajo culture. \nKady’s art piece\, Tell Me A Secret\, is on view in our Wapiti Gallery as part of the A Conceptual Thread exhibition through November 2nd\, 2025. \nSnacks and nonalcoholic beverages will be provided. SUMMARY:Yoga on the Trail
DESCRIPTION:Thursdays in July & August \nTop Jackson Hole yoga instructors conduct weekly summer classes outside on the south part of the Sculpture Trail (parking lot to your left as you come up the hill). Participants will feel inspired doing Sun Salutations and Downward Dogs as they look across the grand vista of the National Elk Refuge.
